I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is key to ensure the success of the therapeutic process. It is important to find the right fit for therapy and for this, I present you with an overview of my experiences and interests. I have completed my training in clinical psychology from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai in 2016 and PhD program from Chettinad University, Chennai. Through my training to become a mental health professional, I found that there were huge gaps in learning when it came to the queer. Taking the Queer Affirmative Counselling Practices course (QACP) has been a great learning experience and has helped me move from a queer friendly therapist to a queer affirmative therapist who can now address the unique life stressors of the queer individual. My interest in clinical research has led me to undertake multiple research projects along with providing me an opportunity to present my papers at various national and international conferences. I choose to combine my learnings from the research process into therapy to provide the best possible approach to an individual's concerns. Moving beyond clinical practice and research, "Mental Health for all" is a statement that resonates highly with me and for this, I have conducted various workshops and lectures to raise awareness about mental health and the stigma that circles it. I aim to slowly but surely break the barriers that exist while seeking mental health support. For my proficiency in the field of Clinical Psychology and my work towards bringing awareness towards mental health, I was presented with the "Young Clinical Psychologist of the Year-2021" award by the Tamil Nadu Association of Clinical Psychologists. In my spare time, I enjoy carpentry, dancing and the great outdoors. Finally, I truly believe that animals are the purest form of love.

Why did you choose to become a therapist?

As a child, I was told that I was empathetic and I started to see the benefits of empathy in the positive responses of the people around me. I discovered, soon enough, that I wanted to widen the circle of mental well-being around me to include all members of the community, irrespective of where they come from and becoming a therapist was a natural progression from that realisation. I truly believe that it is one of my biggest responsibilities to bring more awareness about mental health and provide a path for self-awareness and emotional well-being.
