Why did you choose to become a therapist?

I think of myself as a perceptive and curious person, which has naturally helped me delve into the mould of a therapist. Witnessing my sibling's battle and victory with depression in my formative years, strengthened my belief in the power of therapeutic assistance. It has grown ever since, and I have aimed at growing with it, to translate my knowledge, skills and potential into effective therapeutic practice for others.

What would you like to tell a client who comes to you for therapy?

I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the courage the client has shown to seek therapy. Therapy is a slow process and takes time, so I would request the client to be patient with themselves while we work towards a better future, with a little bit of effort and lots of hope.

What does a first session with you look like?

I use the first session to understand the nature of your concerns and conceptions or misconceptions about them. I try to elicit your expectations and goals from therapy, and from yourself - using a mutually collaborative framework. While all this is happening, I work on generating sufficient motivation towards change and ensuring that you are consistently able to adhere to it, for a better future.

What has been an important learning of being a therapist?

I have learned that successful therapy doesn't come out of a manual. It is individually tailored for every client, and hence there is no ""one size fits all"" approach to therapy, rather there are as many skews as there are human minds.
