Why did you choose to become a therapist?
Connection has been a continuous theme in my life growing up in a large extended family. I naturally develop close relationships with people, getting to know them beyond a superficial level, and letting them know I am there for them. It's been an amazing, fulfilling journey and I hope to continue walking along with people who need support, encouragement and empowerment in their lives.
What would you like to tell a client who comes to you for therapy?
I would like to appreciate my clients for the courage they show in signing up for therapy, and assure them of it being a safe space where they can talk and express anything without fearing judgment or disclosure.
What does a first session with you look like?
The first session focuses on gathering information about why a client is seeking care and to start formulating ideas of how best to help them.
What has been an important learning of being a therapist?
Over the years, I have learnt that discovering the unconscious meaning and motivation behind problematic behavior, feelings and thoughts provides new insights and breakthroughs in therapy. Understanding the function of the symptoms makes it simpler and easier for the clients to work on improving their wellbeing.
