CBT helps people to identify destructive thought patterns that negatively affect their emotions and behaviour. The therapist will address these thoughts and teach you how to challenge and replace them with more realistic ones. For example, if you’re faced with an important test, and your negative thought is 'I will fail this', you’re likely to feel demotivated and unworthy as a result. <br />The therapist will teach you how to question such distortions and help you replace them with more objective (less untrue) thoughts. The major advantage of CBT is that you can see a change in your emotions and behaviour in a relatively short period.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Humanistic therapy is a client-focused therapeutic approach. It is grounded on the belief that people have the ability to achieve their goals if they receive the right kind of positive support. Furthermore, it emphasises self-development and responsibility. Therapists help individuals to identify their strengths and choices in a current situation. It is largely focused on the ‘here and now’. <br />This approach does not believe in categorising people on the basis of a specific diagnosis, instead, it helps the individual as a whole. The therapist will guide you towards making choices for yourself that are healthy and productive.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages acceptance as a way to deal with negative thoughts and experiences. ACT promotes openly facing distress instead of avoiding or eliminating it. <br />For example, you may have noticed that trying not to be anxious often adds to the feeling of anxiety. Thus, in ACT, the therapist will teach you several skills, including mindfulness, to promote a more flexible, open mindset. <br />This helps you to commit to changing your behaviour and leads you to stop struggling against the odds. You learn how to live a life that is aligned with your values. This combination of acceptance and commitment to personal values eventually leads to healthier thought processes and behaviours.
