Why did you choose to become a therapist?
Psychology has been very close to me since I was introduced to it in my high school. As I learned more about the subject, I became fascinated with its role in our day to day life. I find great joy and satisfaction in being able to help others overcome their mental health concerns and empowering them to cope with their challenges in a healthy manner.
What would you like to tell a client who comes to you for therapy?
I believe that a collaborative approach is key to achieving successful outcomes in therapy. To aid with this, clients can expect a safe, non-judgemental environment that will enable them to get in touch with their emotions. My aim is to guide my clients towards self-awareness and self-acceptance. I will guide my clients with the most helpful techniques that will help them meet their unique goals.
What does a first session with you look like?
The first session will centre around us developing rapport with each other and ensuring that we are a good fit for each other. A majority of the session will be spent exploring the nature of the current concerns and the significant factors that contributed to them. I will also spend time demystifying the therapy process and clarifying any queries. Over the course of the next sessions, I will work on understanding the concerns in detail and accordingly modify the initial treatment plan to suit the clients' needs.
What has been an important learning of being a therapist?
My greatest learning has been that sensitivity, empathy and active listening can go a long way in making someone feel heard and valued.
